There has been a lot of interest (and confusion) surrounding Microsoft Corporation’s MSFT Windows 10, especially in the recent weeks as the launch date — July 29 — draws near.
It is still not clear how to get the new operating system (OS) and who will get it for free. Currently, users and investors appear equally confused about Windows 10.
Confusion
On Friday, Microsoft announced that it is giving away Windows 10 for free to every participant in the beta Insider Program for its latest OS. Later, however, certain changes were made.
According to Gizmodo, Ars Technica noted that the Redmond-based company altered some crucial words in the blog post.
Formerly, the blog post said that signed up members of the Insider Program running a preview version would “receive the Windows 10 final release build and remain activated.” After the change, it only said that they will “receive the Windows 10 final release build.”
Microsoft also clarified that “only people running Genuine Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 can upgrade to Windows 10 as part of the free upgrade offer.” Earlier, the company had announced that only customers upgrading from Windows 7 or 8 will get a free upgrade.
We wish the confusion was over! But Microsoft’s Gabe Aul, who authored the post, later clarified on Twitter TWTR that insiders will stay activated as long as they are operating a preview build on the same registered MS account.
