GoPro’s HEROCast Set to Enhance Live-Gaming Experience

Zacks

Leading portable video camera maker GoPro, Inc. GPRO is all set to hit the broadcast market with the launch of portable, high cost-efficient wireless HD micro transmitter, HEROCast. The company, in collaboration with Vislink, disclosed the official debut of this miniature transmitter at NAB 2015.

In Jan 2015, GoPro partnered with Vislink – the global supplier of broadcast communications equipments – to jointly improvise its product range and make it suited for live broadcasting.

HEROCast – Revolution in Broadcast Market?

GoPro’s HEROCast transmitter is developed to aid professional broadcasters in offering eye capturing live content along with enthralling point-of-view footage. Developed at par with GoPro’s standards, this lightest transmitter will enable the company’s flagship camera line – HERO3+Black and HERO4 – to broadcast live, HD wireless video for the first time.

Taking about the unique selling proposition, HEROCast transmitter is said to use less energy than other transmitters currently available in the market. This leads to the products’ small size, and long battery life, while it is devoid of heating issues. Notably, HEROCast transmits HD 720/60fps and 1080/60fps video via H.264 encoding with low latency as well as outfitted for use in harsh environments.

Earlier this year, GoPro has successfully used the device at the NHL and ESPN X Games and brought fans closer to the sports action. In January, the company inked it’s first professional sport league deal with The National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Players' Association (read more: GoPro-NHL Brings New Camera Angle to Boost Game Experience).

Prompted by the response, the company introduced HEROCast transmitter in two options based on the usage – HEROCast standalone transmitter and HEROCast BacPac integrated transmitter – both priced at $7,500 MSRP. While the HEROCast standalone transmitter is especially designed for providing a first-hand view of the action, HEROCast BacPac integrated transmitter is water resistant quality and meant for integral action viewing.

Bottom Line

Coming up with more engaging content, GoPro is moving to capture the broadcast market with HEROCast transmitter and fulfill its broader market expansion goals. The company, in particular, has been innovating products to enhance the live gaming action experience of the audience. This bodes well for long-term growth of this Zacks Rank #2 (Buy) stock.

Other well-ranked stocks include Audience, Inc. ADNC, Skullcandy, Inc. SKUL and LG Display Co., Ltd. LPL. While Skullcandy carries a Zacks Rank #1(Strong Buy), Audience and LG Display have the same rank as GoPro.
