Cavium Inks Deals to Address Hyperscale Datacenter Market

Semiconductor maker Cavium, Inc. CAVM announced its collaboration with Hyve Solutions Corporation and StackVelocity with an aim to address the hyper-scale cloud and datacenter market and Open Compute concept.

The Hyve Solutions Partnership

Cavium will collaborate with Hyve Solutions Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SYNNEX Corp. SNX, to leverage Hyve Solutions’ AmbientSeries in order to bring its 64-bit ARM-based volume server solutions to the market.

The AmbientSeries platform, a versatile and highly reliable server, is engineered to meet the demands of hyper-scale datacenter environments. Cavium’s ThunderX, when powered with AmbientSeries servers, will offer superior price, performance and power features over competing solutions.

The partnership will speed up the deployment of ARM servers in Cloud Infrastructure and boost momentum in the market. ThunderX-based AmbientSeries servers are set to optimize workloads in Cloud Compute, Storage and Big Data markets.

The StackVelocity Collaboration

Cavium also partnered with StackVelocity, a business unit of Jabil, to deliver Open Compute Project (“OCP”) and OCP-inspired Open Cloud Server platforms based on the ThunderX line of processors. The best-in-class ARMv8-based server platforms will be capable of supporting diverse Hyperscale datacenter workloads.

Companies today are focused on wringing out every ounce of performance and efficiency from their data center. The partnership will bring Cavium's ThunderX architecture to Open Compute for scale-out IT operators, delivering workload-optimized, scalable, flexible and efficient ARM-based Data Center server solutions to the OCP community.

The OCP Initiative

The Open Compute Project, led by Facebook, Inc. FB is an initiative that focuses on open standards and breakthroughs to create and operate more manageable and cost-effective data center systems. It has huge implications for the semiconductor and optical transceiver industries. Members of the foundation include industry stalwarts like Intel Corporation INTC and Microsoft Corporation.
