General Motors to Recall Buick LaCrosse in China in 2015

General Motors Company’s (GM) Chinese joint venture with SAIC Motor Corp. – Shanghai General Motors Co – will recall 40,496 Buick LaCrosse sedans in China in Mar 2015. The information was revealed by the General Administration of Quality Supervision Inspection and Quarantine, which is China’s leading quality watchdog.

Shanghai General Motors will recall the Buick LaCrosse vehicles manufactured between Jan 11 and Nov 8, 2006 to fix defective headlights. The necessary parts will be replaced by General Motors, free of cost. The company did not comment on the news.

General Motors has been recalling vehicles in huge numbers this year. In the U.S. alone, the automaker recalled more than 26.6 million vehicles in over 77 recalls.

Even in China, the automaker has been recalling vehicles frequently. In September, Shanghai General Motors announced a recall covering 107,016 Cadillac SRX sport utility vehicles in China for a fault in the rear suspension component. The recall covered vehicles manufactured from Jul 2009 to Aug 2014.

In the same month, Shanghai General Motors also announced a recall involving 38,328 Cadillac XTS sedans in China owing to a brake control software issue. The recalled vehicles were manufactured in the Oct 2012–Jul 2014 period. The automaker found that some drivers were facing problems in accelerating the vehicles owing to the faulty software.
