Google Teams Up with Startup Mesosphere for Cloud Platform

Zacks

Search giant Google Inc. (GOOGL) recently entered into a partnership with Mesosphere, a startup that develops software for installing applications on any computing infrastructure. Under the partnership, Mesophere’s core capabilities will be integrated into the Google Cloud Platform.

Moreover, the companies will also work on incorporating Kubernetes, Google’s open-source Docker management program, with Mesosphere’s software to enable developers to easily and efficiently run applications in the cloud. It will also help Google streamline the deployment of Docker containers that pack up application code.

Kubernetes is used to control computing power from data centers into a strong virtual machine. It enhances cloud computing deployments as well as the usage of container technology. It is supported by big tech companies including Microsoft (MSFT) and IBM (IBM).

Mesosphere, launched last year, runs on the Apache Mesos technology and provides a solution to easily deploy and manage Mesos clusters on any cloud platform. Mesos clusters are an open source technology that allow easy deployment of complicated applications and even ease workloads by automating operations. It is used by companies such as Twitter (TWTR), Vimeo, Airbnb and others.

The latest move will enhance Google’s efforts to automate applications and resources at its data centers. Moreover, the advanced technology will also place Google in a better position in the cloud infrastructure market to compete against Amazon (AMZN) Web Services. It will also boost the prospects of Google’s Kubernetes initiative. Google Cloud platform users will also get access to the Mesosphere cluster, which they will be able to deploy on Google’s servers in minutes.

This increased efficiency would also be cost efficient, which would attract corporates to Google’s cloud infrastructure, thereby increasing its customer base.

Google currently holds a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
