Tata Motors Limited (TTM) recorded global wholesales of 77,575 vehicles in May 2014. The figure includes sales by its subsidiary, Jaguar Land Rover.

In the commercial vehicles business, global sales of Tata, Tata Daewoo and the Tata Hispano Carrocera range amounted to 29,161 vehicles in May 2014. In the passenger vehicles business, Tata Motors’ global wholesales for May 2014 were 48,414 vehicles.

Global wholesales of Tata passenger vehicles in May 2014 were 9,416 units. On the other hand, global wholesales of Jaguar Land Rover were 38,998 vehicles, of which 6,848 units were from the Jaguar brand and 32,150 vehicles from Land Rover.

Tata Motors posted earnings of Rs. 12.16 per ordinary share (99 cents per American Depositary Share or ADS) for the fourth quarter ending Mar 31, 2014, nominally down from Rs. 12.27 ($1.13 per ADS) in the year-ago quarter.

Consolidated revenues in the quarter escalated 16.6% year over year to Rs. 653.17 billion ($10.6 billion). Strong demand, higher volumes, enhanced product mix and better geographic mix at Jaguar Land Rover offset the negative impact of the weak operating and economic environment.

Tata Motors is the largest automobile company in India. It is also the 5th largest truck manufacturer and the 4th largest bus manufacturer in the world.

Currently, Tata Motors carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Some better-ranked automobile stocks worth considering are Fox Factory Holding Corp (FOXF), Gentherm Incorporated (THRM) and Tower International, Inc. (TOWR). All these stocks carry a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy).
