AUSTIN, Texas, May 14, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ — Light Bohrd, LLC is looking to make revolutionary contributions in skateboarding and snowboarding style by adding the world’s first motion-activated, LED lights to the bottom and sometimes top of each sport’s respective boards.

Modern skating and snowboarding industries are driven by each athlete’s style. “There’s style in the clothing, the look, the tricks, and the ride. The board is an extension of that art form.” said Chris Forgey, President of Light Bohrd. “It’s our opinion Light Bohrd establishes a new creative benchmark that will allow skaters and snowboarders alike to get noticed and get known.”

The Light Bohrd LED design uses patent-pending technology to store energy and activate LED lights to illuminate the board’s graphics. The technology is completely embedded in the board. Light Bohrds are charged wirelessly through magnetic induction (there are no external wires or mechanical switches) and are brought to life by the wave of a magnet. The lights are then activated with motion. A fully charged Light Bohrd will stay lit for up to 6 hours.

Light Bohrd graphics catch the eye any time of day, but experiencing the Light Bohrd LED technology at night is something Forgey thinks can really excite riders and add fuel to the growing trend of riding and filming at night.

“In daylight our boards still stand out with resilient graphics and they’ll hold up to the wear and tear that is part of the sport, ” Forgey said. “But at night our boards provide for an experience that is exhilarating. The illuminated graphics look cool and provide for a very unique riding experience. I’ve ridden the product at night myself and you gain such an intimate connection to the product and that’s exciting to me.”

The inspiration for the idea was Forgey’s son, Mason, whose dream is to become a professional skateboarder. Chris was tucking Mason into bed one evening after he had read an article on LED lamps. While Mason was recapping his day of skating for his dad, Chris asked him what he thought about adding lights to his skateboard. Mason loved the idea, Chris built the prototype, and Light Bohrd was born.

The company recently co-sponsored a longboard, downhill race called the Gnarathon in Waco, Texas. They also sponsored one of the riders in the event who has reached 41 mph using the Light Bohrd Hotchkey Bomber. “We’ve been fine-tuning the technology and manufacturing process to ensure we have a high quality product,” Forgey said. “We’ve recruited boarders to help design and test our product to ensure we haven’t compromised the feel or performance of the boards. We’ve assembled a small but great team and we’re excited about the impact we can have in the marketplace.”

Along with all of the stylistic changes Light Bohrd stands to create in the skate and snowboarding industries, the company desires to make an impact on safety in board sports, as well. Light Bohrd will launch its helmet line this summer.

“We want wearing helmets to be cool,” Forgey said. “We see so many kids and young adults not wearing helmets. Often times when we go to a skate park, there will be 100 kids there and no more than 3 kids will be wearing helmets. I’ve seen kids trying the easiest tricks and hit their heads.”

The Light Bohrd facility is located near Austin, TX. You can see the company’s custom-crafted products there or online at www.lightbohrd.com and www.facebook.com/lightbohrd
