ABB Ltd. (ABB) entered into a contract with the Gujarat State Electricity Company Limited (GSECL) of India to renovate and modernize the control systems of Wanakbori thermal power plant. The plant has a capacity of 1,260 megawatt (MW) and is located in the western region of the state of Gujarat. The value of the contract is $ 18 million and was booked in the first quarter.
The plant will be utilizing ABB’s well organized SymphonyTM distributed control system (DCS). ABB will be deploying its complete set of control and instrumentation system to the thermal plant. The company’s control solutions includes diagnostics and optimization packages, turbine controls, steam generator control, station controls and instrumentation, a steam and water analysis system (SWAS), flue gas analyzers, control valves, actuators and positioners. Work on the plant is expected to be completed by 2013.
Globally, around 6,000 of ABB’s Symphony control system is deployed in DCS installations, especially in power generation and water areas. These control systems help in achieving economical and productive means of power generation system. The company continues to focus on further enhancing the efficiency of its Symphony platform, thus achieving greater capacity, elevated performance and new functionality across such areas as control, I/O (input/output), communications, engineering, operations, safety and security.
